After determining the garments you need in your wardrobe, the next step is to include wardrobe staples on your list. Staples are the foundation of any Classic Wardrobe and can be worn with many other items hanging in your closet.
A black skirt or pair of slacks
A black dress
A white button-down shirt
A black blazer
Whether you do charity work, sing in a choir, or have a job interview, the need for a black skirt or pair of black pants and a white button-down shirt seems to occur. The powers that be always assume every woman has these items hanging in her closet. Make sure you do; you’ll breathe a sigh of relief the next time you hear those infamous words, “Just wear a black skirt and a white shirt”. When possible, choose a seasonless stretch wool for the skirt and pants that can be worn all year around.
The proverbial little black dress is another fashion must-have. It goes from the boardroom to dinner, from a meeting at school to the market. Once you own one, you’ll wonder how you ever survived without it.
Make sure you include these staples on your Classic Wardrobe Worksheet. Later we will be discussing each staple in detail, but next on the list is the Classic Wardrobe Palette. Until next time.
