Sunshine Award

I can’t believe we are already a few days into 2018. It seems the days on the calendar are already flying by at an alarming rate.  Around Thanksgiving, Tricia at ChocolateMusings nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award. The nomination served as a catalyst for analyzing the blog, my goals, and quite honestly, my life. I realized I needed some time to sort everything out and took time off from writing. Who knew answering a few questions could be so life changing! Thanks Tricia for the nomination and for providing the vehicle for self-examination. It has been a fun journey which has only just begun.

As part of the Sunshine Blogger Award, I was asked to answer a few questions ….

What is my favorite part about blogging?

I enjoy writing, photography, and genealogy. Blogging lets me do it all!

What makes me happy?

Being with my children makes me the happiest. All three are adults now and getting the four of us together is a rarity. I treasure the time I spend with each one of them. Conversations are lively and range from politics to science fiction. They keep me abreast of the latest technological trends, fashion faux pas, financial news, and movie reviews.

Where is the coolest place I have traveled to?

Not only did I travel there, but I lived in Hawaii for a little over a year. I learned so much about the history and the culture of the islands and, of course, the food was fabulous and the scenery incredible.

What is the biggest frustration in my life right now?

Juggling life. I seem to have way too many projects going on at the same time. There is the normal day-to-day life of cleaning and cooking and running errands. Then there are all the things I am trying to learn – dusting the cobwebs off my photography skills, learning photoshop, getting my blog going, figuring out how to use facebook, twitter, instagram…the list goes on.

Do I have any pets?

Yes, two cats. One is 19 years old and can be a bit grumpy from time to time, but I guess he has earned the right. The other one is 12 years old and demands accolades after catching his toy mice – so much so that he often catches the same mouse over and over again, each time crying until someone tells him what a great hunter he is.

What is my favorite thing to cook?

Thanksgiving Dinner – the biggest turkey I can find, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, pecan pie, pumpking pie, and whatever else I can think of to add to the feast. I try to eat only organic foods and my daughter is gluten intolerant so most items are made from scratch.  It can be a bit challenging, but I enjoy every minute of it.

What is a weird/interesting fact about me that most people don’t know?

I led a class rebellion when I was in first grade. The teacher left the room for what I considered to be an excessive amount of time and as a result I stood up on my desk and announced that we should all get our coats and go home. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, the teacher returned before everyone could get their coats and exit out the door. Apparently, I have never been too good at feeling like my time is being wasted LOL

What are five things on my bucket list?

  1. An extended trip on a luxury train.
  2. Celebrate Christmas in a cabin in Vermont.
  3. Celebrate Thanksgiving in a cabin in the Smoky Mountains.
  4. Visit Alaska.
  5. Design and build my dream house.

How do I handle stress?

Probably not as well as I should which is why I try to avoid as much stress as possible by being organized and planning things in advance. Stress, however, never totally avoidable so when I am faced with it, I try to keep things in perspective and remember that the situation will not last forever. Stressful times have an ending point, thank goodness, and I rely on my faith to sustain me until I reach it.

What inspired you to start a blog?

Okay, this is the question that really got me thinking about my blog, my goals, and my life. I started the blog with the intent of covering fashion, entertaining, and home decor. They are topics that interest me and I felt I had something to contribute regarding classic dressing and universal design as well as party planning. However, upon reflection, I want to do something totally outside my comfort zone and write about my adventures and discoveries as a writer and photographer. So, this year, I will restructure, and I will see where it goes. Let the adventure begin!

Since I am relatively new to the blogging world, I don’t know many bloggers to nominate. However, if you would like to participate, consider yourself nominated and pass it on 🙂

Sharon! This was so insightful to read. I loved getting a deeper insight into who you are. I laughed out loud (literally) at the class rebellion. Standing on your desk the whole bit. I am amazed that you love to cook Thanksgiving dinner! What an undertaking. Your bucket list is amazing. I might borrow some of them. 🙂 And finally – I am ecstatic to see what you do with your site and your focus. Good luck and keep me posted.
